English Grammar Simple Present Tense


Definition of tense:- The word tense derived from the word Latin “Tempus” which mean Time. Its shows not only the time of an action but also the state of an action or event also.
Simple Present Tense
Present indefinite tense shows an action in present which is not accomplished. In this tense things always true or situations that exist none and as far as we know will go on indefinitely.  
Rules:-
1.       To express habitual action such as.
a)      He takes milk every morning.
b)      I get up every day early in the morning.
2.       To express general truth such as:-
a)      The sun rises in the east.
b)      The earth moves around the sun.
3.       To express a fact or to express permanent actions such as:-
a)      Independence Day falls on the 15th August in India.
b)      Milk sells at rupees fifteen a litre Monday.
4.       To express plant future actions such as:-
a)      She gets married next year.
b)      I leave for Delhi tomorrow.
Affirmative sentences:-
With the third person singulars such as he, she, it or any name be use ‘s’ or ‘es’ with the first form of verb. In plural and third person such as I, We, You, they   etc. Be should use the first form of the verb.
Example:-
a)      I play hockey.
b)      We go to Shimla every year.
c)       They take interest in the college activities.
d)      He writes a letter.
e)       She likes  to read novels.
Negative Sentence:-  
In negative sentence with the first, second person and third person plurals i.e I, We, You, They, Girl we will use do not  use the first form of the verb but with the third person singular subjects such as he, she, it, Ram etc.  We will use does not with the first form of the verb:-
Structure:-  Subject + do/does not + Form + Object (if any)
Tense Example:-
a)      I do not play hockey.
b)      We do not go to Shimla every year.
c)       He does not write a letter.
d)      She does not like to read novels.
Interrogative Sentence:-
In interrogative sentence, with the first and second person and third person’s plurals we will use as:-
Structure: - Do + Subject + first form of the verb +object (if any)
While with the third person singular subject we will use:
Structure: - Does + Subject + 1st form of the verb + object (if any) as following:-
Example:-
a)      Do I play hockey?
b)      Do we go to Shimla every year?
c)       Does he write a letter?
d)      Does the like to read novels?
Interrogative + Negative Sentence:-
In this kind of sentences with the subject I, We, You, They or plurals numbers we will use
Structure: - do + subject + not + first form of the verb + object (if any)
And with the third person singular subject we will use
Structure: - does + subject + not + first form of the verb + object (if any) such as:-
Example:-
a)      Do I not play hockey?
b)      Do we not go to Shimla every year?
c)       Does he not write a letter?
d)      Does she not like to read novels?
Exercise for Practice:-
1)      The peon ----------the bell. (ring)
2)      We -------T.V every night. (watch)
3)      Clouds ---------- rain. (bring)
4)      He -------- to office. (go)
5)      They ------- a lesson (write)
6)      I ------------ not play chess. (do)
7)      ----------- he go to office? (go)
8)      ----------- I not play football? (do)
