As we
know that we have thousands of words in English language, these words help us
to express the needs, thoughts and feelings. In English language some words
express “action”, others “thing”.
There are
eight parts of speech in English grammar and every word in English can be
categorized into these parts of speech.
1) Noun: - We can say,” Noun is the name
of place, person, object, quality or concept.”
Noun is
the part of speech which resides in the categories: person, place, and thing.
Given below are some on examples of nouns.
Person
& Place noun: - Hong Kong, America, George Bush etc.
Things or
Object Noun: - Pencil, Chair, Tree an Ball pen ect.
Quality or
concepts:- Socialism, State, Government, Beauty etc.
2) Verb: - Verb is a word which used
to explain a state, action or occurrence and it go along with nouns. This part
of speech also express actions that have already happened, happening presently,
happen on regular basis, or will happen in future.
In other
words we can say Verb is a word which tells us something about subject. There
can be no sentence without a verb – a verb is nerve of a sentence.
Example:-
He is running outside today.
I am making a phone call.
He spoke to his father.
I bought this car.
I jumped over the cat.
3) Pronouns: - Pronoun is the word
in part of speech which word used
instead of noun.
Example:
- They, she, It, that, few, myself and himself ect.
i)
Rose is
my sister she is a doctor.
ii)
A ship
went out to sea, and she had all her sails up.
Here the
pronoun ‘she’ is used instead of the noun ‘ship’ and saves its being mentioned
twice. Its chief use is to save the repetition of a noun. We should note that a
pronoun by itself is meaningless. It acquires meaning only when the mind of the
person associates it with some noun already mentioned.
4) Adjectives: - Adjective is the
part of speech which describe noun and pronoun. An adjective, as already made
clear, qualifies a noun or adds to its meaning.
Example:-
i)
Dalhousie
is a beautiful hill station.
ii)
Cristine
is an intelligent girl.
iii)
The claver fox began to flatter the foolish crow.
5) Adverb: - An adverb is the word which
usually modifies or adds to the meaning of a verb, adjective or another adverb.
Example:-
i)
My friend
speaks English very frequently.
ii)
Tom is
very fine these days.
iii)
Nancy talks
gently.
In the
above sentences, ‘gently’, ‘very’ are the words which have modified or added something
to the meaning of the words, ‘talks’, ‘fine ‘and ‘fluently’.
6) Prepositions: - Part of speech
preposition have the most tough definition among all parts, but the they are
easy to understand.
“Preposition is the words that
always show relationship between a noun and pronoun and always placed before
the noun or pronoun.”
i)
Peter is
putting his pen into his pocket.
ii)
Your pen
is on the table.
You can see
in given above sentences into, on, with showing relationship with pocket, table,
you.
7) Conjunction: - Conjunction is the
glue words which joins two words, phrases, clauses, and sentences.
8) Interjections: - In the parts of speech,
an interjections is the words which express the sudden feeling.
