Moods in English Grammar


In English Grammar. Mood shows that speaker’s attitude towards the statement whether what he says a statement, question, command, or simply wishful thinking. 

There are three types of moods in English Grammar.

1)      Indicative Mood
2)      Imperative Mood
3)      Subjective Mood

1)      Indicative Mood: - Indicative mood is the mood which shows a fact or a question. It is used to make statements, express, and opinions.

Example:-
i)                    Did you attend the meeting?
ii)                   Who opened the gate?

2)      Imperative Mood: - Imperative mood are the signals that indicates an order, command or request.
Example:- 

i)                    Tell me the color of sky.
ii)                   March forward, my soldiers.   (Order)
iii)                 Lend me your pen please.        (Request)
iv)                 Go and open the door.              (order)

3)      Subjective Mood:- Subjective moods indicates something contrary to fact or something which is a mere wishful thinking.

Example of Subjective Mood:-
i)                    I wish I were rich.
ii)                   Go save our Rashtrapti!
iii)                 If he is here I shall see him.
iv)                 God bless her with a son!
